Recording through the Audigy 2ZS

Hey everyone,
I’m wondering what I need to do to hook up a cassette player to my front panel of the sound card.
Do I hook it up directly or do I need an Amp first?

Soundblaster gone; Barracuda In…But

After messing around with Windows Vista Home Premium and Soundblaster Audigy ZS 2 Platinum for a month, I have totally given up. The system won’t recognize the soundcard, but it played (terribly, for awhile) then no sound at all. Reseated the card a gillion times…don’t think that’s the issue. One of my most important activities is recording talk off the Internet. With Creative’s very limited Vista software, no "What U Hear," means no internet recording using my trusty Cool Edit 2000. For awhile I could record using Nero, and then edit with CE, but I’d rather not. Then the sound died entirely.

I went online looking for good quality soundcards that worked with Vista. Ended up getting the Razer Barracuda which works fine with their Beta Vista driver. Love the sound. Better than the Audigy. But… the software only allows very limited recording sources like Mic and Line In only…something like that.

Is there any way to set the recording source so I can pick up the Internet using this card? I love it and hate to lose it but it’s really a gaming card and not for audiophiles. (Not that I’m an audiophile, really.)

Someone on the Creative forum said they were having luck with the older Soundblaster 5:1 SB0100 card. Looked like "What U Hear" was functional, but I asked him to test Internet recording for me and he hasn’t gotten back to me yet.

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts! If I can’t record with something now, I can wait for MS to come up with their final sound release and then wait for Creative to come up with new drivers/software. But I might be dead by then.

Thanks!

Best sounding non-Apple portable audio players?

Any recommendations regarding sound quality in MP3 players? I’m looking for a flash based player of 2-4 gigs capacity. If there is some sort of lossless compression that will work that would be great but if it can at least play uncompressed WAV files that would be sufficient. Much prefer a drag and drop interface as well.

Thanks!

Musical performance that changed your perceptions!

Odd title, I know.
I was just thinking of concerts I have seen, that I may not have waited in line for tickets, but went due to tickets given to me, in spite of my pre-conceived notions.
My music background was completely classic rock, throughout my teens and early twenties. I have seen Deep Purple, Aerosmith, etc, etc in concert, and loved them. Then one day, at work I was offered tickets to see Dionne Warwick at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Ok, nice seats, free, etc. So the wife and I went.
Wow. To say that we were completely blown away would be an understatement.
We clapped, cheered, and were just moved by the performance. One of the most rewarding musical experiences I have ever had.
I believe that that one experience led to the expansion of my musical tastes to such a degree, that my first love in music now involves jazz and standards.
So what musical experiences have you had that changed your thinking and enjoyment of music?

No sound from new sound card

I recently got a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy card. I originally had onboard sound. It came with no install instructions, so I just slid it into the slot where I assumed it should go, and booted up my computer. Used the install disk, then tried a game. Unfortunately the game had no sound at all. :(

Here’s the DXDIAG part about Sound:

I need two Optical ports…

On the back of my Bose Lifestyle I can input one Optical Fiber Cable. I need to hook two up so I can use my TV or Game Box360.

With only one input I would have to change cable from TV to XBox all the time.

I hooked the XBox up with HDMI to my TV but I cannot choose that source in my TV Menu to use as Optcal sound out. I can choose TV,DVD.Aux,etc.,but no HDMI.

Any Ideas on a splitter or switch for Audio Fiber cables?

Thanks,
Butch

SB Audigy2 ZS Plat + Logitech Z-5500 - Coaxal and 6Ch Direct HISSING

it may have been like this as long as ive had this combination (2 years) but this is the deal:

Optical Input: Xbox360
Coaxal Input: PC
6Ch Direct Input: PC

on both the 6Ch Direct and Coaxal inpits, if its silent and i turn the volume up, i get noise through the speakers (just a hissing sound, everyone has heard it) but it doesnt happen with Optical. I just figured that was because optical uses light and therefore didnt pickup noise simply because it isnt using a metal conductor. But now i am curious because shouldnt the noise be almost non-existant even with the other inputs?

I guess what im really asking is, is there a way to reduce this noise or possibly get rid of it?
