Two things, whenever I attempt to enter Network and Sharing center it usually comes up blank for awhile, and then eventually (maybe 5 or 10 minutes) the information will show up but I can’t select anything and there’s no way to exit the window and it just remains on my taskbar unless I restart.

Also, the system tray icon in the bottom right corner always shows disconnected (even when I am) and also if I right click takes a few minutes before responding to my click, all during this time my being able to use my computer freely but eventually the menu will pop up. If I hover over this icon it just says:

Connection status: unknown

Server execution failed

But, I am connected to my wireless network and can access the internet etc.

I’m not sure if this is related, but Windows Update always comes up with an update for Microsoft SQL Server Service Pack 2 or something, and I’m pretty sure that it never successfully installs, because it says that it does, but every time I ‘Search for new updates’ it’s still there.

hi all, i have vista troubles and would appreciate your help. i’ll put up all the info:

i just installed vista home premium 64 (OEM) on a new gaming system. i can access my local network normally (file copies, etc), but i can’t access web pages (thru IE or firefox). oddly, i can connect to the steam gaming services, ie log into steam, update games, even join net games. after i do that, the tray icon shows "local and internet", where it was "local only" before.

the addresses are the 10.0.0.xx kind.

i’ve tried the diagnose function, but no help there. the rest of the systems on the network (wired and wireless) can get on the net, they are all XP systems. my firewall is off, net security is on medium (lowest setting on the slider). i’ve tried disabling net 6.0, no luck. tried the vista update but it wouldn’t connect. my nvidia network drivers are the latest.

i’ve tried restarting the routers and my system a few times, tried disconnecting the ADSL access (to isp) and reconnecting, tried ipconfig /release/renew. release returned "that operation requires elevation".. or whatever…

my network goes like so:

ipconfig shows that it’s found the correct gateway - the 10.0.0.xx address of the speedtouch.

i noticed an odd route in the speedtouch’s route table:

Destination Source Gateway
default 10.0.0.25/0 [our isp assigned net address]

25 is the local address of my machine… no other systems on the network have routes in the table matching this one.

4GB crucial ballistix ram
2x WD 400gb - raid 0

ASUS 1814BLT lightscribe DVD (currently causing BSODs after win logo when booting… hard to update the firmware when it won’t even boot!!)

so yeah… seems like something to do with vista’s setup, since i can access steam! i’m at the edge of my knowledge here, any suggestions?

Hello well we are trying to setup our first Vista Machine on our network
server is Server 2003 No Domain its just setup as a Workgroup, the Vista machine obtains an IP from the Router and can access the internet BUT it cant see any of the other machines in the workgroup when I start the network assistant it says it will now search for network components and nothing ever happens, I can ping other machines from it and can ping it from other machines its just not showing up in the workgroup, firewall is turned off
any suggestions would be appreciated

I saw it on Engadget today and had to take a peek. Amazonmp3.com is now selling DRM free music. The Bit rate is a very reasonably 256 as well. The selection seems pretty impressive so far. There is no special software needed you can just download it after you purchase with your browser or you can use the app they will link. I haven’t tried the app yet, but apparently it will also add it to your itunes and media player libraries automatically.

Some of my stuff should be coming in today. I ordered an AudioTrak Prodigy HD2 stereo soundcard earlier this week. It has upgradeable opamps, and uses that new sweet sounding AKM DAC along with a Via Envy24 HT-S APU. I didnt stop there, I also ordered some LM4562 opamps from National Semiconductor and some AV123 X-LS bookshelf speakers. This will be a major upgrade over my 1212M/Insignia combo. The 1212M sounds good, but wont sound as good as the Progidy HD2. I auditioned one last week and was blown away, so I just had to get it :D. Im sure my day at work will go by very slow because Im looking forward to what the UPS man leaves me this afternoon. Im surprised I actually found this soundcard, not very many resellers of Audiotrak products in the US. Cant wait to be rockin out when I get home :cool:.

Do I hook it up directly or do I need an Amp first?

Off and on for the past 2 wks I’ve been overclocking the 5600. Ive made it to 3048mhz12×254, 2×1024 4-4-4-12-16 2T 2.1v(set at 333, cpuz reads 312) 380 after o/c, ht is 1014(2028). How far can ht be pushed over its 1000/2000 default and is the 5600 near the end as far as overclock mhz? Thanks

After doing a slight overclock on my Opteron processor….only to 2.5 gig I was wondering how accurate the nividia monitor utility is. When I run Orthos stress prime for a while the temp only goes up to 38c, the moment typing this it shows 26c but it is cold here this morning. I downloaded Speedfan and this seem to agree with the Nvidia software.

I am sort of hoping that the nvidia software is spot on and it seems I have a bit of room to go.

My CPU is running at 2.5 gig, my memory is at 415 mhz, 7-3-3 but I have not touched my video card.

After messing around with Windows Vista Home Premium and Soundblaster Audigy ZS 2 Platinum for a month, I have totally given up. The system won’t recognize the soundcard, but it played (terribly, for awhile) then no sound at all. Reseated the card a gillion times…don’t think that’s the issue. One of my most important activities is recording talk off the Internet. With Creative’s very limited Vista software, no "What U Hear," means no internet recording using my trusty Cool Edit 2000. For awhile I could record using Nero, and then edit with CE, but I’d rather not. Then the sound died entirely.

I went online looking for good quality soundcards that worked with Vista. Ended up getting the Razer Barracuda which works fine with their Beta Vista driver. Love the sound. Better than the Audigy. But… the software only allows very limited recording sources like Mic and Line In only…something like that.

Is there any way to set the recording source so I can pick up the Internet using this card? I love it and hate to lose it but it’s really a gaming card and not for audiophiles. (Not that I’m an audiophile, really.)

Someone on the Creative forum said they were having luck with the older Soundblaster 5:1 SB0100 card. Looked like "What U Hear" was functional, but I asked him to test Internet recording for me and he hasn’t gotten back to me yet.

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts! If I can’t record with something now, I can wait for MS to come up with their final sound release and then wait for Creative to come up with new drivers/software. But I might be dead by then.

my system. It’s been awhile since I’ve tweaked my A7V133 so I’ve forgotten
a few things.

SO, I’d like to oc..well… everything! CPU, RAM, and Video Card.
Are there any tweak programs that I should use?
Particular settings I should start at?

Finally, I tried to use an old MemTest CD and it won’t work with this
system. Is there an alternative?
